Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Frosting:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1/3 cup evaporated Milk
  • 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Grease 9 X 13 baking pan or use parchment paper to line.
Combine butter and sugar in mixer.
Beat in egg.
Add cocoa and vanilla, mix well.
Stir together the sour cream and baking soda in a small bowl.
Add this mixture.
Sift flour and salt.
Add to mixture and beat at low speed.
Beat the boiling water in at low speed (batter will be runny).
Bake 1 to 1 1/2 hour or until tooth pick comes out clean.

Frosting:

Combine ingredients into sauce pan.
Stirring constantly over medium/low heat.
Heat ingredients until melted.
Spread on cake.
