  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup (4 ounces) shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup minced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh sage
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 cup 1% low-fat milk
  • Cooking spray
  • 12 sage leaves

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400º.

Lightly spoon the flour into a dry measuring cup, and level with a knife. Combine the flour and next 4 ingredients (flour through black pepper) in a large bowl. Stir in shredded cheese, minced green onions, sage, and thyme. Add milk, stirring just until moist. Drop dough by 2 level tablespoons 2 inches apart onto baking sheets coated with cooking spray. Gently press 1 sage leaf into the top of each scone.

Bake at 400º for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
