For some reason, when you ask for this recipe, you are told it's the "one on the box of oatmeal" and it just AINT so!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs -- beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups quick oats
  • 1/2 cup walnuts

1 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs -- beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups quick oats
1/2 cup walnuts

Thoroughly cream shortening with sugars; add eggs and vanila extract; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Add oats and nut meats; mix well. Shape into rolls; wrap in waxed paper and chill thoroughly or overnight. Slice 1/4" thick; bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
