Broccoli Chowder

Ingredients

  • 2 c. water
  • 1 c. carrots, sliced
  • 1 lb fresh broccoli, chopped
  • 1 c. celery
  • 1/2 c. onions, chopped
  • Cheese sauce
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/1 /4 tsp. white pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 c. ham, diced
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 4 c. milk
  • 1-2 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Bring water to a boil in large saucepan. Add vegetables; reduce heat, cover and cook until crisp-tender, about 5 mn. DO NOT DRAIN

Cheese sauce:
Melt butter in a large skillet; add flour and pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth. Stir in milk; cook until it thickens slightly. Add garlic and cheese. Stir until melted. Add to vegetables and then add ham. Warm until ham is heated through.
