Step 1
Take 2 tbsp pine nuts or slivered almonds and put in oven safe dish and with oven at 350, cook for about 10 minutes until golden. Then in a large bowl hull and half 6 cups strawberries and mix with small amount of sugar and ¼ c orange flavored liqueur or orange juice and put in the bottom of an 10 inch paella pan or shallow 2 qt oval casserole dish. Then in a large bowl put 3 large egg whites with ¼ tsp cream of tarter and beat on high until foamy. Then slowly add 6 tbsp sugar and mix until it hold stiff moist peaks. Then add this over the strawberries and sprinkle nuts over top. Then dust top with confectioners sugar. The oven now needs to be preheated to 500. Put in oven for about four minutes or until golden brown. Serve immediately. We tried this on 2/14/09 and it was awesome. The kids did not like it. There was a little extra liquid so make sure strawberries are dry. Also, halved strawberries were too big, so quarter them. I left it in oven for about 8 minutes and still could have used a little longer. It was very light and refreshing. Would also be goo with a little lime I think. It also needs to be served right away, hot. It was not nearly as good when it cooled off. Also, when mixing egg whites, it does take quite a while as far as the mixing.
