Ingredients

  • 8 C flour
  • 3 tsp salt
  • 1/3 C sugar
  • 3 C boiling water
  • 1 C Crisco
  • Butter and sugar to serve

Preparation

Step 1

- Combine dry ingredients in large bowl; make a well in flour mixture; add Crisco
- Carefully pour boiling water in well; mix well; may need to mix with hands as it cools
- Use about 1/3 C for each; keep bowl covered to keep dough warm; may rewarm slightly in microwave if it gets hard to roll
- Roll thinly with rolling pin and then use lefse roller to roll very thin
- Bake on hot lefse grill until light brown on both sides
- Cut in half and let dry at least overnight
- Store in cool dry place with some circulating air
- When ready to use, dip in warm water and place between waxed paper for several hours to soften
- Spread with butter and sprinkle with sugar; fold onto 4ths
