- 50 ml canola oil, divided 4 tbsp
- 909 g chuck steak, cut into chunks 2 lb
- 75 ml flour 1/3 cup
- 750 ml beef stock 3 cup
- 40 ml tomato puree 3 tbsp
- salt & pepper to taste -
- 125 ml mushrooms, sliced 1/2 cup
- 125 ml carrots, julienned 1/2 cup
- 125 ml onion, chopped 1/2 cup
- 50 ml celery, chopped 1/4 cup

In a large skillet; heat 2 tablespoons (25 ml) oil. Add beef and brown on all sides. Place in roasting pan; set aside.
Add remaining oil to skillet and slowly add flour; mix well. Add beef stock and tomatoe puree. Cook until sauce is thickened and smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Pour mixture over steaks in roasting pan.
Bake in preheated 350 F (180 C) oven for approximately 2 hours or until meat is tender; adding mushrooms after 1 1/2 hours of cooking.
Cook carrots, onion and celery until tender; drain.
