Sweet & Spicy Green Beans and Carrots
By MaryEllen
This is the disappearing recipe from SparkPeople.com. There one day and gone the next. Fortunately I printed a hard copy.
The original called for 2 TBS. hot sauce. I added 1 Tsp. and it was plenty for my taste, so this recipe reflects that change.

- 1 tsp Texas Pete hot sauce
- 1 cup chopped carrots
- 1/2 pound green beans
- 2 slices bacon, diced
- 1 med. onion sliced in half moons
- 1 apple sliced in half moons
- 1 Tbs. brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- pepper to taste

Step 1
Blanch or steam green beans and carrots will nearly tender. In a large skillet, cook bacon till nearly crisp. Add the onion and cook until transparent and soft. Add the apple, hot sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. Cover and cook until apples are tender, 3-4 minutes. Stir in the beans and carrots and serve immediately.
Cooks notes: These can be made ahead of time. Refrigerate the steamed veggies and onion mixture separately. Combine and heat through when ready to serve.
