Ingredients
- 1 750-ml dry red wine
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
- 1 Tbs. anisette liqueur
- 1 cinnamon stick, broken in half
- 4 whole cloves
- 1/4 tsp. packed, finely grated lemon peel
- 1/4 tsp. packed, finely grated orange peel
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

Step 1
Combine wine, sugar, raisins, almonds, andisette, cinnamon stick, cloves, lemon peel, and orange peel, in heavy large saucepan. Scrape in seeds from vanilla bean, add bean. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes to blend flavors.
