Ingredients

- 2 cups chopped onions
- 1 cup strong black coffee
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1 cup worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup hot chili peppers, minced*
- 3 tablespoons chili powder (adds flavor without heat)
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 teaspoons salt

Texas barbecue sauce ingredients included basic spices, available indigenous peppers, and often boiled black coffee when the trail water was suspect.
3 tablespoons chili powder (adds flavor without heat)
Simmer about 25-30 minutes, then puree in blender to help bring out all of the flavors.
Combine ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
