Brown Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups + 2 TB flour
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 14 TB unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 TB vanilla

Step 1
1. Heat 10 TB butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until melted. Continue to cook, swirling pan constantly until butter is dark golden and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and transfer butter to heatproof bowl. Stir remaining 4 TB into hot butter to melt; set aside for about 15 minutes.
2. Preheat oven to 350. Line pans with parchment paper. In a shallow baking dish mix granulated sugar and 1/4 cup brown sugar, rubbing between fingers, until well combined- set aside. Whisk flour,soda and powder in a medium bowl; set aside.
3. Add remaining 1 3/4 cups brown sugar and salt to bowl with cooled butter; mix until no lumps. Scrape bowl; ass egg, yolk and vanilla- mix well. Add flour and mix until just combined.
4. Roll 2TB balls in resereved sugar to coat and place 2" apart on a large sheet.
5. Bake until browned and still puffy and edges have begun to set but centers are still soft, about 12-14 minutes.
6. Cool on sheets 5 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
