Every fall, we looked forward to Mom making this family recipe with fresh Italian prunes. Canned prunes can also be used or any other fruit. It isn't a very sweet cake, but the powdered sugar drizzle adds just the right touch.

Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 dash Salt
  • 6-8 Italian Prunes, split
  • Streusel Topping:
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 2/3 cup Flour
  • 6 tbsp Butter
  • Drizzle:
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Milk
  • Vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Cake:
Melt the butter. Mix in sugar, milk, egg, flour, baking powder, vanilla and salt.

Grease 9x13 cookie sheet and spread batter around the pan.

Lay halved prunes on top of batter with small amout of juice, if using canned prunes.

Topping:
Combine sugar, butter and flour until blended and crumbly. Sprinkle over top.

Bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes.

While still warm, mix powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until you have a thin frosting. Drizzle around the pain in the amount that you prefer.

Cut into squares.
