  • 1/2 loaf sweet egg bread like challah or brioche
  • Nutella
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter/spray 9×13 glass baking pan. Slice the bread and make several nutella sandwiches. Cube the sandwiches into 1-inch to 2-inch cubes and place cubes in baking pan (try to cover the bottom well — you don’t want the bread pudding to be too high or you’ll have empty spots).

In a small saucepan over low heat, combine milk, butter, vanilla, sugar, and salt. Warm and stir until butter melts. Remove from heat and let cool. Add the eggs to the cooled mixture, whisk briefly, then pour the entire mixture over the bread cubes.

Bake for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the custard is set but slightly wobbly and edges of the bread are browned.

Eat. Then eat some more. Then hide it so no one else can eat it. Enjoy!
