Ingredients
- For the bean seasoning: (makes 1/2 cup)
- 1/4 cup chile powder
- 2 Tbsp. kosher salt
- 1 Tbsp. pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp,. onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp. garlic powder
- 1/4 tea. cumin
- For the beans
- 1 lb. dried pinto beans, picked over and rinsed
- 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
- 1/2 cup bean seasoning
- 8 cups water
- 1 cup chopped, shredded brisket

Step 1
Make the seasoning: mix all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
Combine the beans, onions, seasoning and water in a large pot and let soak for 4-6 hours, or up to overnight.
Add the shredded brisket to the soaked beans and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat to a slow simmer, cover and cook for 3-4 hours, until the beans are tender.
