Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 250°F. Line a 9- by 13-inch pan with foil. Grease pan with vegetable cooking spray.
Help kids measure out the oats, rice, almonds, raisins, and wheat germ. Kids can pour all these ingredientsinto a large bowl and mix with a wodden spoon to combine. Drizzle the maple syrup and oil over the mixture and toss to coat evenly.
Spread the oat mixture onto the prepared pan and place in the oven. Bake, stirring every 15 minutes, until lightly toasted and golden; about 45 to 50 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and place on a wire rack. Using a buttered spatula or piece of wax paper, carefully press down on the mixture to make an even layer in the pan. Using a sharp knife, score crosswise to create approximately 16 3/4-inch strips. Place a large sheet of wax paper over the squares and then place another 9- by 13-inch pan on top of the wax paper. Place several cans in the top pan to weigh it down. Let the crunchy dunkers cool completely.
Remove the cans, the second pan, and wax paper from the pan with the Crunchy Dunkers. Invert them onto a cutting board and cut along the score marks to create 16 bars.
