Ingredients

  • Dry Rub:
  • 4 racks of baby back ribs
  • 1 tbsp. (15 ml) paprika
  • 1 tbsp. (15 ml) pepper
  • 1 tbsp. (15 ml) kosher salt
  • BBQ Sauce (Makes about 1-1/2 cup)
  • 2 tbsp. (25 ml) butter
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 cup (250 ml) ketchup
  • 3/4 c. (175 ml) brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. (50 ml) cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. (5 ml) worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. (5 ml) hot sauce

Preparation

Step 1

Trim any excess fat from the ribs. Season the meaty side of the ribs with the dry rub. Place several layers of aluminum foil on a flat surface. Place the ribs on the foil and wrap tightly.

Place on a baking sheet and put in a preheated 325F oven for 1–1/2 hours. Remove from the oven and place on a preheated gas or charcoal grill for 3-4 minutes each side.

Brush generously with the sauce and grill a further 2-3 minutes each side or until the sauce begins to caramelize.

Serve with additional sauce.

BBQ Sauce

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Cook the onion until soft. Add the garlic.

Add the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, worcestershire sauce and simmer for 10 minutes.

Stir in hot sauce and adjust seasonings to taste.

(Make-ahead: Can be doubled easily and refrigerated for several days.)
