"Your fish is begging for this wonderfully creamy and tasty tartar sauce. Perfect with my fool-proof crispy Beer Battered Cod recipe. A sure hit... you can omit the capers...although that would be a crying shame. Enjoy!"

I didn't think I'd like such a tangy tartar (not my usual choice), but after it sat a while, it just got better & better. I served it with Crispy Tilapia as suggested by someone else & it made that recipe even more outstanding. And yes, the capers really make it. BTW, I finally figured out how to "chop" those little suckers that kept rolling off or flying off my cutting board. I put them in a ZipLock bag & took the smooth side of my meat mallet & smashed them up. It worked great. Thanks for sharing this great recipe.
I was making fried fish for dinner tonight, and when I went to the fridge to look for tartar sauce, it was all gone! I checked a few recipes to try and make one from scratch, and yours looked really good so I chose it. I had all the ingredients on hand, it took only a few minutes to make, and I put it in refrigerator for the flavors to meld as I started to prepare dinner.... Well, your recipe made the best tartar sauce I have ever had. It was so smooth, creamy and fresh-tasting. SO much better than the stuff in a jar -- I'll never buy store-made tartar sauce again. Yours is the one I'll be serving from now on!
This is BY FAR the BEST tartar sauce recipe I have found. Actually, it's the BEST tartar sauce I've ever tasted!
There was a discussion on Facebook about the Luby's tartar sauce and how incredible it was. I was lacking one ingredient, and never could find the "real" recipe, so I opted for this one. I'm so glad I did. It's really excellent. This is going to be my tartar sauce recipe for life!!!
I made it exactly as it was written and it was great, especially with my homemade mayonnaise. I'm thinking some horseradish might be good in it as well, but it's certainly fine the way it is.
Yummy! Made a half-recipe for recipe #112210. Thick, fresh-tasting, and easy to whip up from ingredients in the fridge. Thanks for sharing!
Yep - great stuff here! I could only find sweet gherkins at the store for some reason, so I swapped out for dill pickle relish. Rough chopped the green onion, tossed everything in the food processor and whirled it last night. Today with dinner - it was fab! My batch was more than a cup by volume - closer to 1 1/2 cups. I filled up my 1 1/4 container and had not even scraped down the FP bowl - so grab an appropriate container; don't want to waste any of it!
I had no parsley so I left it out and used a generous amount of cayenne pepper sauce, a 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish and fresh chopped onion instead of scallion. This was delicious! Better after it sat for awhile. thanks!!!
Wow, thank you so much for a delicious recipe! Needed Tartar sauce at the last minute and made yours and it was wonderful! Thanks again! -Italianmomof2
Oh yes...oh yes...I will never buy bottled tartar sauce again...we loved this stuff !
Very good, used it on some lake perch. Also used sweet relish in place of the dill, next time I plan to divide and try both types to see which is better! Thanks for a great recipe!
We will never buy tartar sauce again! This is perfect. For our taste, we exchanged the dilled gherkins for sweet relish... it was fabulous! Thanks so much for making something so simple so delicious.
My husband loved this sauce so much that he actually went to the store to buy more fish so he could use up the leftovers. I really never cared for tartar sauce until now. It was incredible. I will NEVER buy tartar sauce again.
This was my first attempt in making tartar sauce~~yummy!! Next time I will leave the capers chunkier as we really like them, but otherwise it's great just as is. Thanks so much for sharing!!
This tartar sauce is sooo good! I had never used capers before and I was glad to have the opportunity to try them. They really made this recipe special. All of these flavors combined were just out of this world. We had the sauce with both fried fish fillets with fish sticks. The whole family loved it!
We dipped our fried fish in this and we loved it. Very good!
Take the time to make this! It only takes about 15 more seconds than squeezing the yukky store bought tartar sauce! This is so delicious, and everyone else is right--do not skip the capers! I'm going to have to buy more fish just so I can eat this again.....
Very easy and verrry yummy, thanks.
OMG. So delicious. Growing up we always just ate the tartar sauce out of the jar. I am now feeling like I got "jipped" back then, b/c THIS tartar sauce is AMAZING & totally blows that other stuff away, & then some! (No wonder I never liked to eat fish back then!) This is going to be my go-to tartar sauce from now on. Do NOT omit the capers; they *make* this sauce, IMHO. Thanks so much for posting!
Just so good. Filled with all kinds of good stuff and best of all, capers. I'm not fond of sweet tartar sauces and this one was perfectly tangy.
We decided at the last minute to have tartar sauce with our crab cakes, and finding this recipe saved us! We had all the ingredients and it was really easy to make. It's got a fresh, light flavor that suited our dinner perfectly! We made 1/2 recipe and it was the perfect amount for one pound of crab cakes.
Thanks for a great recipe that helped me out in a pinch. I'd just made fish and chips for a friday night, when I realized I was out of tartar sauce. The recipe was really good!I used pickle relish cause I didn't have gerkins (and we kinda like ours a bit sweet anyways) I omitted the capers, only because I wasn't sure the kids would care for them, but would like to try them next time. The lemon really brightens the flavors in this, as well as the fresh parsley. Came together in about 2 or 3 minutes; faster than it would've taken me to run to the store!
I scaled this down to 2 oz since it is just the 2 of us, wanted to see how it turned out and I have never been a huge fan of tartar sauce, but my BF is. I really loved this creamy and slightly tangy condiment. I always thought tartar sauce had a strange aftertaste but that must be all the preservatives in the commericial stuff! I will never allow the bottled stuff in my house again! I did use the capers ( a must IMO) and used just a tad more lemon juice to brighten up the flavors a bit... Just lovely on some crab cake sandwiches I threw together for lunch! Thanks for posting!!!
Well...What else do I need to say other than OH YES at the top of my lungs? I'm a moron and accidentally left the capers out and it was still the BEST tartar sauce I've ever had, hands down. Going to try it the right way tonight...not sure how it can get any better...but I bet it will. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the recipe. I'm a Marine wife who has been torn away from the real fish and chips in my home (Michigan) and I have spent six long years looking for a substitute...and this is even better. Thanks again!!!!!
This is a wonderful sauce! I'll never purchase Tartar Sauce at the grocery store again. Thanks!
Do you really need more "whoopee's"? Probably not, but you've got them anyway! Terrific stuff, even Mr.Fussy-about-tartar-sauce really loved it. Thanks, you've ended our search for perfection!
