Black walnut cake
A great cake for holiday entertaining.
Use small loaf pans and wrap in festive ribbons for hostess gifts.
- 3 cups flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 pound butter
- 1-11/2 cups chopped black walnuts
Set oven for 350 degrees.
Measure together flour, baking powder, salt and set aside.
Flour walnuts and set aside.
Cream butter. Add vanilla and sugar and cream again.
Add eggs one at a time. Beat after each.
Add flour mixture alternating with milk. Beat to make a smooth batter.
Fold in walnuts.
Cool on rack.
