Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-1 1/2-inch slices
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk, cream or sour cream
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp powdered ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- dash cloves
- dash salt
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2-4 TBSP butter
- pure maple syrup

Step 1
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add enough butter to coat the bottom of the pan. In a wide, shallow bowl, combine the eggs, milk, spices, salt and vanilla. Mix well. Soak both sides of the bread slices in the mixture and place in the skillet. Cook each side until golden brown, flipping only once, 2-4 minutes per side, depending on heat and thickness of bread. If you like, slip a little extra butter under the slice while flipping to ensure both sides brown evenly. Serve immediately with butter and syrup, Spread on cream cheese instead of butter if you really want to jazz it up.
