Ingredients

  • vegetable oil, for the grill
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 1/4 c yellow mustard
  • 4 sub rolls, split
  • 8 thick slices ham
  • 2 dill pickles, sliced lengthwise
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • unsalted butter, for brushing

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat a grill or grill pan to medium, lightly oil the grates. Grill the hot dogs, turning, until marked, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a cutting board and halve lengthwise.

2. Spread the mustard on the sub rolls. Sandwich with the ham, pickles, cheese and split hot dogs. Butter the outsides of the sandwiches and cook in a panini press or grill pan (flattening with a heavy pan), until golden and crisp, 3 to 4 minutes per side.
