Whole Grain Waffles with Berry Syrup

Ingredients
- Waffles
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 3/4 cups reduced-fat (2%) milk
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Syrup
- 1 12-ounce package frozen assorted berries, such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries.
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 cup orange juice
- 6 tablespoons chopped walnuts

Preparation
Step 1
1. For waffles, preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit and preheat waffle iron.
2. in large bowl combine all-purpose flour, pastry flour, sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt until blended.
3. In medium bowl whisk together eggs, milk, and oil. Stir milk mixture into flour mixture just until blended. Cook waffles in batches until done. Place waffles on oven safe plate; keep warm in oven.
4. Meanwhile, for berry syrup, in small saucepan combine berries, maple syrup, and orange juice. Bring to boiling. Reduce heat to medium; simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat; keep warm.
5. Place 2 waffles on each of 6 large plates. Divide berry syrup over waffles. Sprinkle each set of waffles with 1 tablespoon of the walnuts.
