Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
- 8 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons clear imitation vanilla extract
- 4-6 fluid ounces heavy cream (add gradually to achieve the desired consistency)

Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening until fluffy. Add confectioner's sugar and continue creaming until well blended.
Add salt, vanilla, and heavy cream blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional heavy cream if necessary (up to 2 ounces). Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy.
Options: Use all real unsalted butter and real vanilla extract.
Use only about half of the heavy cream so that the icing doesn't get too soft It is perfect, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth.
