Ingredients

  • 1 gal medium sized cucumbers
  • 8 small white onions sliced
  • 1 gree pepper
  • 1 sweet red pepper
  • 1/2 cup coarse salt
  • cracked ice
  • 5 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons tumeric
  • 1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons mustard seed
  • 2 teaspoons celery seed
  • 5 cups vineger

Preparation

Step 1

Slice cucumbers thin; a mandoline is nice for this. Add onion and pepper; cut these in narrow strips. Add salt; cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly; let stand 3 hours; drain; combine remaining ingredients; pour over cucmber mixture. Bring to boiling; place in hot steralized jars; seal; makes 8 pints.

Place cucmbers in non-reactive bowl to sit. Crock pot, pyrex, etc. no metal.

Mother got this in August 15, 1958 from Kathern Patten. Really good pickles.
