Ingredients
- 1 gallon green tomatoes
- 6 large onions
- 3 cups brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon celery seed;crushed
- 1/2 lemon
- 3 pods red pepper
- 3 cups vinegar
- 1 tablespoon whole cloves
- 1 talespoon mustard seed
- 1 tablespoon ground mustard
- 1 tblespoon whole black pepper

Step 1
Sllice the tomatoes and onions thin. Sprinkle over them 1/2 cup salt and let stand overnight in a crock or enalmeled vessel. Tie the pepper, cloves, allspice, and celery seed in a cheesecloth bag. Slice the lemon and chop 2 pepper pods very fine. Drain the tomatoes and onion well. Add all the seasonings except one pepper to the vinegar then add the tomato and onion.
Cook 1/2 hour stirring gently at intervals to prevent burning. Remove spice bag. Pack in steralized pint jars and garnish with slender stripes of other red peppers; place vertically on sides of the inside of the jar. Process pints for 15 minutes at simmering temperature. Seal, cool and store!
