Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350. Grease and flour a 9x13 pan. If using caramel squares, unwrap all.
Melt butter in mixing bowl and add cake mix and 1/2 cup milk. Spread half of special made cake batter in cake pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, melt caramel and 1/3 cup milk in microwave or over medium heat on stove until all caramel pieces are melted completely.
Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Let sit for a few minutes to melt, and then spread with a spatula. Pour melted caramel over top and spread carefully over the entire thing.
Use other half of special cake batter on top of caramel. It will be thick, so you will have to piece it together and press with your hands. It’s okay if there is some spaces, but try to cover as much as possible. (One thing I like to do is get a piece of wax paper and spread the batter into a 9x13 shape on the wax paper, then flip over onto the baked half and peel wax paper off. But piecing it together works just fine, too)
Bake for 18-20 minutes. Be sure to cool completely before serving (you can put it in the fridge to cool).
