This chicken and " ground nut " or peanut stew is a national dish of Zimbabwe.

Ingredients
- 2-4 Tablespoons peanut oil
- 2-3 pound chicken,
- cut into serving pieces
- 2 finely chopped yellow onions
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup + 3 cups water
- 16 ounce can stewed whole tomatoes
- salt & pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 2 cups finely chopped cabbage
- 3 coarsely chopped carrots
- 3 sweet potatoes,
- peeled and coarsley chopped
- 2 peeled and coarsely chopped turnips
- 12 whole okra pods

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Heat the oil at medium-high in a large heavy pot, such as a Dutch oven. Fry the chicken pieces, a few at a time, until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side. Remove chicken to platter, place in oven. If needed, add 2 more Tablespoons oil to the pot, and fry the onions, stirring, until soft, about 3 minutes. Reduce heat to medium, and add peanut butter, 1 cup water, and stir well. Add 3 more cups water, then the tomatoes, cabbage,carrots, sweet potaoes, turnips, and okra. Cover and cook 25 minutes, or until tender, reducing heat to simmer if needed.
