Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1 large lime, juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, or more to taste
  • 3 plum (Roma) tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 large clove garlic, pressed
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Your favorite store-bought salsa
  • 1 large bag tortilla chips

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium bowl, using a fork, mash together avocados, lime juice and salt; add onion, cilantro, tomatoes, garlic and cayenne pepper. For the best flavor, serve immediately and don’t refrigerate. However, if you must prepare it ahead, be sure to place an avocado pit in the middle of the guacamole (to keep it from turning brown); cover and refrigerate. Just before serving, remove the pit and give the guacamole a quick stir. Place salsa in a serving bowl and tortilla chips in a basket; serve.
