Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 1 pound boneless skinless turkey breast meat, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 3/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 (14.5-oz.) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (16-oz.) can black beans
  • 2 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine allspice, cayenne pepper, ginger, garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper; add turkey and toss to coat; set aside for 15 minutes then place in a slow cooker together with any spices remaining in the bowl. Add garlic, onion, tomatoes, beans, broth, salt, and remaining black pepper; blend well. Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours. Stir in lime juice and cilantro; let sit for 5 minutes for flavors to blend before serving.

LC SERVING SUGGESTION: A relish tray of celery sticks, radishes and whole black olives.
