SUGAR COOKIES - MOM MARY'S RECIPE
By MommaRode
This recipe is also in the First Edition of the Rode Family Cookbook titled "Recipes for Old-fashioned, Down-home Eating" (1993)
This recipe is from the original "Mom Rode" Mary Patterson Rode, Toby's mother. It either came down through her family or perhaps from Grandma Jenny, Bucky's mother. These cookies were always in her Christmas Cookies making, and were a family favorite. They ARE Toby's favorite cookie and a Rode family favorite.
Just a piece of history trivia from December 1974. As I said above, Mary always made these cookies when baking her Christmas cookies and she of course knew they were Toby's favorite. The first November/December we were married (2-1/2 months), she made a tin of these cookies and gave them to us. The next day, while Toby was at work, I went to the tin and got out a cookie ... then another, then another, then another... What can I say in my defense? NOTHING! Guilty as charged! They were sooo good! I had never had any cookies like that before, so YES! I ate them all!! :-0 Although I think I may have been the only one in our apartment that night that thought it was in the least bit funny...
