Chocolate Chip Squares

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 1/2 lb margarine
• 2 egg yolks
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 tablespoon cold water
• 2 cups flour
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1 pinch salt
• 2 egg whites
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 1 6 ounce chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Cream sugars and margarine. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and cold water.
Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture.
Spread on 10 1/2 x 15 1/2 greased cookie sheet
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top of cookie dough
Meringue topping
Beat in mixer the 2 egg whites. Slowly add brown sugar and beat until margarine stands in peaks. Spread meringue over chocolate chips. Sprinkle with nuts.
Bake in 350 oven 20-25 minutes. Slice in squares when cool.
