Ingredients

  • CAKE:

  • 1/2

    c. shortening

  • 1 3/4

    c. sugar

  • 2

    eggs

  • 2 1/4

    c. flour

  • 1/4

    tsp. salt

  • 1/2

    c. cocoa

  • 1/2

    c. buttermilk

  • 1/2

    tsp. vanilla

  • 1/4

    tsp. baking soda

  • 1

    c. boiling water

  • FROSTING:

  • 1 1/2

    c. sugar

  • 2

    tbsp. cocoa

  • Evaporated milk

  • 1/2

    tsp. vanilla

Directions

CAKE Cream the shortening and sugar Add the eggs and beat. Add flour, salt, cocoa, buttermilk, and vanilla and beat. Mix baking soda and boiling water; stir into cake batter only enough to blend. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes in 9 x 13 cake pan. FROSTING Blend sugar and cocoa. Add enough evaporated milk to stir. Boil about 1 1/2 minutes. Add vanilla. Apply to cooled cake.
