Preparation

Step 1

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375°F.

On a sheet pan lined with parchment paper, draw an outline in the shape of a large football. Place the franks vertically along the outline, forming an eyeball shape. Place another layer of the franks along the inside of the first layer, being sure to lean them slightly diagonally against the bottom of the first layer of franks so that they're touching. Continue to fill in the football shape with the remaining franks. It's ok to have them touching or slightly layered.

Next, beat the egg with a teaspoon of water and brush over the franks. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until golden brown and the dough is cooked through.

While the football is baking, make a cheese sauce. In a medium saucepan, sauté the onions and garlic in the oil on low heat until transparent. Add the beer, cheese, mustards, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir and continue to cook over low heat until all the cheese has melted. Serve the cheese sauce with the pigs-in-a-blanket football.
