Preparation

Step 1

Spray 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Separate dough into 8 biscuits. Cut each biscuit into 6 pieces; place in slow cooker.
2 Add 1 cup of the ham, the green onion whites and whipping cream; toss to coat. Spread mixture evenly in bottom of slow cooker.
3 Sprinkle cheese and remaining 1/4 cup ham over top, leaving 1-inch border so cheese doesn’t touch slow cooker insert.
4 Cover top of insert with large kitchen towel. Place slow-cooker lid on top of towel. (This will prevent condensation from dripping onto biscuits during cooking.) Cook on Low heat setting 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes. Insert paring knife into center of casserole to test that biscuits are fully baked; outer edge will be deep golden brown. Sprinkle with green onion greens. Serve warm
Not all slow cookers cook the same. If yours tends to get hot on one side (usually where the heating element is), carefully turn the insert halfway through cooking. We used an oval slow cooker for this recipe so that the biscuit pieces in the center have a chance to cook all the way through without burning the edges. In a round slow cooker, the mixture is too thick in the center and takes much longer to cook completely.
Not a fan of Gouda? Shredded sharp Cheddar cheese works well, too.
