Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk (use remaining for "Fanny May Fudge")
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 4 ounces bitter unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Coating:
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons or so half and half
  • 1/2 - 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Mix egg yolks, evaporated milk, and sugar in a double broiler. Heat slowly. Add chocolate and vanilla. Cook until chocolate melts. Chill completely and then roll into a 3/4 inch log. Put powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. Add vanilla and butter, if desired. Add enough half and half to moisten into a pliable "dough". Roll out so that it is the length of the chocolate roll and about 2 inches in width. Wrap around the chocolate roll. Cut into 1/4 - 1/2 inch slices.
