Ingredients

  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 2 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 2 egg
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 cup toasted pecans (optional)
  • For a more cake like brownie, add 1 teaspoon of baking powder.

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift together flour, soda and salt. (and baking soda, if you are using)
Melt butter in a saucepan (if using shortening add teaspoon of water). Cool slightly and add dark brown sugar, egg and vanilla and blend. Then add flour mixture a small amount at a time. Add nuts, if you are using them. Spread in a 13x9 inch pan and sprinkle chocolate chips over top. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Do not overbake.
