- 2/3 Shortening
- 4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate
- 2 Cups Sugar
- 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour*
- 1 cup chopped almonds
- 1 cup chopped almond paste
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 eggs

Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Heat shortening and chocolate in 3-quart saucepan over low heat. Stir in remaining ingredients. Spread in greased rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches.
Bake until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan, about 30 minutes. Do not over-bake. Cool slightly. Cut into bars, about 2x1 1/2 inches. 36 brownies; 195 calories per brownie.
*if using self-rising flour, omit baking powder and salt.
