Ingredients

  • Cookies:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • Filling and Frosting:
  • 1 jar maraschino cherries (about 48)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, melted
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Drain cherries and reserve 4 tablespoons of the liquid. Make the frosting by combining the melted chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and the reserved cherry liquid. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and mix to combine. In another mixing bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Slowly add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Cover cookie dough and refrigerate at least 1 hour.

Shape 1-2 tablespoons cookie dough into a small ball. Make indentation and place a cherry in it. Cover cherry with frosting. Bake cookies 10-12 minutes.
