Brown Bread

  • 1 1/2 cups white flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark brown Karo
  • 2 cups sweet milk
  • 2 cups graham flour
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup raisins

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325F.

Sift the dry ingredients (white flour, salt, soda) together. Mix the Karo and brown sugar, then add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add graham flour last and rest of milk. Add raisins and walnuts.

Bake 1 hour or longer, until knife or toothpick comes out clean. Top will be hard and cracked in the center when done.
