Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 6 slices crisp bacon, crumbled
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 425°. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.

Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. Add the butter in chunks and work into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in the cheese and bacon.

Mix the egg and buttermilk together and add them to the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Roll the dough on a floured surface to a 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out circles with a cookie cutter. Place the scones on the prepared cookie sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until browned and well risen.
