Ingredients
- 2 cups of flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 cup of milk
- 4 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1/2 cup shortening or butter

Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 425.
2. Combine dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and cut the butter until the mixture resembles cornmeal.
3. Add the milk gradually working it with a fork until it forms a ball around the fork.
4. Turn the dough on a floured surface and knead lightly by folding the dough.
5. Repeat 6 times.
6. Roll dough with a floured rolling pin to ½ to ¾ inch.
7. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter.
8. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
9. Brush the top with a mixture of milk and egg yolk.
10. Bake 10-15 minutes
this recipe yields 20 biscuits.
variations:
cheese: add ¼ cup of grated cheese
raisins: add 5 teaspoons of sugar and ½ cup dry raisins.
