Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 4 cups flour

Step 1

Cream together shortening and sugar, then add the molasses, then the eggs. Pre-sift your dry ingredients and add at this time. Refridgerate this dough at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Roll into walnut sized balls and roll these balls into sugar. Then place them onto a cookie sheet. Bake@350 for about 12 minutes or until they have a slight browning and have lost the "shine".
