  • 1/2 cup Shortening, softened
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup Molasses
  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Boiling Water

Preparation

Step 1

In a bowl, beat shortening and sugar until smooth. Add egg and molasses and beat well. Mix flour, salt, baking soda, ginger and cinnamon. Add half of the flour mixture to molasses mixture and beat well. Add half of the boiling water and beat well. Add the rest of the boiling water and flour mixture and beat well. Fill greased baking pan half full. Bake at 350° for 35 minutes or until the gingerbread bounces back when touched.
