  • 1 1-by-2-inch strip orange peel, removed with a vegetable peeler
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters, or more to taste
  • Crushed ice
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Step 1

In an old-fashioned glass or julep cup, using a muddler or a wooden spoon, muddle 1 mint sprig, the orange peel, sugar and bitters. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Add the bourbon; stir until cold, about a dozen times. Garnish with the cherry and the other mint sprig.
