Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Crisco shortening
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs well beaten
  • 11/2 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup sifted cake flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Have all ingedients at room temperature.
Using an electric beater, cream Crisco and sugar.Add eggs and beat 3 minutes. Then fold in melted chocolate and vanilla.
Sift dry ingredients together. Add dry ingedients and milk alternately starting and ending with flour mixture.Blend in at low speed after each addition.
Butter an 8"x8" pan and line with wax paper. Bake at 350*F. for 40 minutes. Check doneness with a toothpick. It must come out clean.

Hot Chocolate Fudge Sauce

2 cups real semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup of whipping cream or half and half
2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. real vanilla

Melt butter in small heavy bottom pot. Add chocolate and cream. Stir constantly on low heat until all is blended and chocolate is melted. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Cool and refrigerate. When ready, reheat in double boiler or microwave on low.
Slice a serving of cake in half. Insert a 1/2" slice of French vanilla ice cream and smother with Hot Chocolate Sauce
