Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder (instant or non-instant)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter or 1/3 cup shortening
  • 5 -5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour or 5 -5 1/2 cups bread flour

Preparation

Step 1

In large bowl, mix water & dry milk until dissolved. Add yeast, then sugar, salt, butter, egg & 2 c. flour.

Mix on low til wet; then medium for 2 minutes. Add 2 c. flour, mix on low until wet; then medium for another 2 minutes. Add more flour.

Dour is soft, not overly sticky. Pour in greased bowl and let rise until doubled. Shape rolls, & place on a greased pan and let rise for 1 hour.

BAKE 375 for 15-20 minutes

Has great flavor (but doesn't freeze well)
