An apple pie prepared rustically instead of in a traditional 2 crust pie in a pie plate.

Ingredients
- Crust:
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1-1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup lard
- 1/4 cup butter
- Approx. 6 tbsp cold water
- Filling:
- 5 apples, peeled and sliced (Mac's, Cortlands)
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp all spice
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tbsp butter
- Topping:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla

Preparation
Step 1
In large bowl, combine crust ingredients, cutting butter in until pea size crumbs are formed. Add enough water so that dough is formed. Wrap ball of dough in waxed paper & refrigerate for about 1 hour.
Roll dough out on floured surface until a large circle is formed (larger than 12"). Either place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet or into deep dish pie plate.
Mix filling ingredients together & pour into centre of crust. Fold edges of crust up over the apples. There will be a portion in the centre that will not have crust.
Mix topping ingredients together, using pastry cutter to add butter in. Sprinkle of the "hole" in the centre of the pie.
Bake 425 for 10min. and then 350 for 45-50 min
