Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 375°F.

2. In large bowl, stir together syrup, flour and cinnamon until blended. Add apples; toss until evenly coated. Spread in ungreased 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish.

3. In same bowl, with pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives in opposite directions), cut butter into cookie mix until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Stir in pecans. Crumble mixture over apples in baking dish.

4. Bake 30 minutes. Very loosely cover with foil; bake 10 to 15 minutes longer or until apples are tender.

Forum Comment:
I have used a similar recipe with Betty Crocker's oatmeal cookie mix and it has always come out wonderful. Instead of the maple syrup (too sweet for my family), I substituted a few tablespoons (usually three or four) of orange marmalade or a peach preserve although apple butter works well too. I added a quarter cup of rolled oats to the cookie mix to enhance the oatmeal flavor and give it a more nutty taste instead of using the pecans (family allergies to nuts). It really is a fool proof recipe and with the sweet apples now available, it is a wonderful and easy recipe to enjoy!
