Ingredients

  • 1/2 c warm water
  • 2 pkgs. yeast
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 3/4 c lukewarm milk
  • 1/3 c shortening
  • 1/4 c sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c sifted a.p. flour
  • oil for frying
  • Glaze: 1T warm water, 1/2tsp. vanilla, 1c powdered sugar

Preparation

Step 1

. Bloom the yeast with the sugar and warm water, combine all the ingredients and mix thoroughly

. Make the glaze by stirring ingredients together, reserve

. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover and set in a warm place to rise about an hour, punch down dough and let rise again, dough is ready when you make an indentation in it at it remains

. On a floured surface roll out dough and cut to shape with a doughnut cutter, fry on one side until brown, flip doughnut over using two long wooden skewers and cook the other side. Doughnut is done when brown on both sides, there should be a small white line on the side of the doughnut, drain and cool slightly and dip into the glae
