Ingredients
- Cake Part
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 well-beaten eggs
- 1 2/3 cup sifted flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Vanilla cream filling
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup flour
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 2 cups scalded milk
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Mocha Icing
- 1 Tbs butter
- 1 Tbs shortening
- 4 Tbs cocoa
- 3 Tbs strong hot coffee
- 3 Tbs evaporated milk
- confectioners' sugar

Step 1
Cake part-
Cream butter with sugar. Add eggs and cream well. Add sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk mixed with vanilla. Bake in 8 or 9 inch greased round bake pans in 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. When cold put together with Vanilla Cream Filling and frost top with Mocha Icing.
Vanilla Cream Filling-
In top of double boiler mix sugar, flour and salt. Add milk and cook for 15 minutes, stirring until mixture thickens. Add eggs and cook two minutes more. Cool and flavor with vanilla (or orange).
Mocha Icing-
Cream butter and shortening, add cocoa, coffee and milk and beat in enough confectioners sugar so that it will be creamy and stand in peaks but not too thick. A fork and lots of beating is the secret.
