Ingredients
- 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar (turbinado sugar, organic evaporated cane juice, organic dehydrated cane juice, and organic cane sugar are all vegan)
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water or non-dairy milk (or a combination of both)
- 1/4 cup oil
- 3/4 cup applesauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Optional: Add 1 cup vegan chocolate chips and/or nuts

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt. Add water and/or milk, vegetable oil, applesauce and vanilla; mix until well blended. Spread evenly in a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until the top is no longer shiny.
